Welcome to Chicago ...

So far, we found very little information about Chicago. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Chicago to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Chicago - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Chicago, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Chicago , we believe that it would have been located within present day Antelope County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Chicago, you might consider that their post office opened in 1883.

Time Zone: The area where Chicago was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are 9 communities that are also named Chicago - they are located in California, Illinois, Kansas (2), Kentucky, New York, Ohio, Texas and Wisconsin.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Chicago was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>

X2X - From that list, the Chicago post office opened in 1883.

We also found Chicago on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Nebraska (1895).

However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. <3>	When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code. In this case, the 402 code has been Overlayed with the 531 area code. New phone numbers in the Chicago area will be assigned with one of these codes: 402 or 531. As a result, placing a call in the Chicago area will require 10-digit dialing (where you enter both the area code and then the phone number).
