At the time of the 2010 Census, Butte had a population of 326 people (which is 15.49% of the total population of Boyd County). This makes Butte the county's 2nd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 326 people, the population of Butte decreased 10.93% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 366 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Butte was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>
