The Commemorative Quarter for Nebraska

Welcome to Arizona ...

So far, we found very little information about Arizona. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Arizona to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Arizona - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Arizona, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Arizona , we believe that it would have been located within present day Burt County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Arizona, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1867.

Time Zone: The area where Arizona was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

The location where Arizona once stood is in the (402) and (531)<3> area codes.

Communities Also Named Arizona ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are 5 communities that are also named Arizona - they are located in Kansas (2), Louisiana, Manitoba and Texas.

For more information, see our Tidbits & Trivia Page for Arizona.

Adding Arizona to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Arizona was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>

From that list, the Arizona post office opened in 1867.

We also found Arizona in the book titled List of Post Offices in the United States (1870).

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Arizona, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Nebraska's counties, including Burt, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>Area code (531) is an overlay for area code (402).
