Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Nags Head had an population of 2,987 people. This is an increase of 8.34% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 10.63% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Nags Head had a population of 2,757 people (or 8.13% of the total population of Dare County). This makes Nags Head the county's 3rd most populous community.

The population of Nags Head represents 0.03% of the total population of North Carolina (which has 9,535,483 people), making it the state's 214th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 2,757 people, the population of Nags Head increased 2.11% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 2,700 people).
