Unfortunately our sources aren't clear about the location of Dismal other than they indicate that Dismal would be found somewhere in Sampson County, North Carolina. From the Blevins / Hellbock List: The post office opened in 1869 and closed in 1904. Communities Also Named Dismal ...We found three communities that share the name Dismal. Within North Carolina, the name Dismal is unique. Beyond North Carolina, we know of another three communities that are located throughout in the United States.
