Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Carthage had an population of 2,557 people. This is an increase of 15.96% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 36.66% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Carthage had a population of 2,205 people. This makes Carthage the county's 5th most populous community.

The population of Carthage represents 0.02% of the total population of North Carolina (which has 9,535,483 people), making it the state's 235th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 2,205 people, the population of Carthage increased 17.85% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 1,871 people).
