While we don't have a date for the founding of Chipman, you might get a feel for it by knowing that the earliest mention that we've found (so far) was on a map dated 1897.
Time Zone: Chipman lies in the Atlantic Time Zone (AST/ADT) and observes daylight saving time. The time zone in French: AST- Heure Normale de l'Atlantique (HNA), ADT- Heure Avancée de l'Atlantique (HAA).
Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are 4 communities that are also named Chipman - they are located in Alberta, New Brunswick, New York and Tennessee.

Adding Chipman to Our Gazetteer ...
As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.
The earliest source (so far) we've referenced which mentioned Chipman was on a map titled Map of Maritime Provinces of Canada (from Rand McNally, 1897).
When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code. In this case, the 506 code has been Overlayed with the 428 area code. New phone numbers in the Chipman area will be assigned with one of these codes: 506 or 428. As a result, placing a call in the Chipman area will require 10-digit dialing (where you enter both the area code and then the phone number).
