The coastal village of Charlo is located on the north coast of New Brunswick (on Chaleur Bay, the Gulf of Saint Lawrence).
While we don't have a date for the founding of Charlo, you might get a feel for it by knowing that the earliest mention that we've found (so far) was on a map dated 1897.
Time Zone: Charlo lies in the Atlantic Time Zone (AST/ADT) and observes daylight saving time. The time zone in French: AST- Heure Normale de l'Atlantique (HNA), ADT- Heure Avancée de l'Atlantique (HAA).
Note: If you travel west from Charlo (for example, toward Pointe a la Croix (QC)), you will soon leave Atlantic Time and cross into the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT).

Adding Charlo to Our Gazetteer ...
As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.
The earliest source (so far) we've referenced which mentioned Charlo was on a map titled Map of Maritime Provinces of Canada (from Rand McNally, 1897).
When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code. In this case, the 506 code has been Overlayed with the 428 area code. New phone numbers in the Charlo area will be assigned with one of these codes: 506 or 428. As a result, placing a call in the Charlo area will require 10-digit dialing (where you enter both the area code and then the phone number).

The Canadian Postal Code consists of 6 characters, where the first three characters are the 'Forward Sortation Area (FSA)', with the last three characters being the 'Local Delivery Unit (LDU)'. The Canadian Postal Codes were created as a way of grouping addresses to make delivery more efficient. So keep in mind that any given Postal Code is only 'loosely' associated with a community (such as Charlo). The boundaries of the Postal Code can be changed, re-assigned, eliminated or overlapped with other Postal Codes. When looking for a Postal Code, whether Charlo or elsewhere, it's always best to check the website of the Canada Post / Postes Canada.
