The city of Roundup is located in Musselshell County<1> (at the time of its founding, Roundup was located in Yellowstone County) and is the County Seat for Musselshell County.


The location of Roundup has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<2>


While we don't have a date for the founding of Roundup, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1883.

From the  Census Estimates for 2019, Roundup has a population of 1,847 people<3> (see below for details).

Roundup is 3,220 feet [981 m] above sea level.<4> In other words, the altitude of Roundup is about ½ mile above sea level.

Time Zone: Roundup lies in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time

Roundup is within the (406) area code.

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Roundup had an population of 1,847 people. This is an increase of 3.3% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 4.35% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Roundup had a population of 1,788 people (which is 39.4% of the total population of Musselshell County). This makes Roundup the county's most populous community.

The population of Roundup represents 0.18% of the population of Montana (which has 989,415 people), making it the state's 39th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,788 people, the population of Roundup decreased 7.41% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 1,931 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Roundup was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Roundup post office opened in 1883.

We also found Roundup in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
