Park County was founded in 1887 and was created by taking area from GallatinCounty.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Park had a population of 15,941 people. This is an increase of 1.57% since the last Census (which gave a population of 15,694 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Park represented 1.74% of the total population of Montana, making it the state's 12th most populous county (out of 56 counties).
