Big Horn County was founded in 1913. Big Horn was created by taking area from Rosebud and Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Big Horn had a population of 13,015 people. This is an increase of 2.71% since the last Census (which gave a population of 12,671 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Big Horn represented 1.4% of the total population of Montana, making it the state's 14th most populous county (out of 56 counties).
