Noxubee County was founded in 1833. Noxubee was created by taking area from Lowndes and Rankin Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Noxubee had a population of 10,417 people. This is a decrease of 9.28% since the last Census (which gave a population of 11,482 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Noxubee represented 0.39% of the total population of Mississippi.
