Grenada County was founded in 1870. Grenada was created by taking area from Carroll, Choctaw, Tallahatchie and Yalobusha Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Grenada had a population of 20,758 people. This is a decrease of 4.93% since the last Census (which gave a population of 21,835 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Grenada represented 0.74% of the total population of Mississippi.
