The community of Hattiesburg is the Seat for Forrest County.

Forrest County was founded in 1906 and was created by taking area from PerryCounty.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Forrest had a population of 81,078 people. This is an increase of 11.67% since the last Census (which gave a population of 72,604 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Forrest represented 2.55% of the total population of Mississippi, making it the state's 9th most populous county (out of 82 counties).
