At the time of the 2010 Census, Whalan had a population of 63 people. This makes Whalan the county's 14th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 63 people, the population of Whalan decreased 1.56% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 64 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Whalan was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Whalan post office opened in 1869.

We also found Whalan in the book titled List of Post Offices in the United States (1870).
