The Commemorative Quarter for Minnesota

Welcome to Scandia ...

So far, we found very little information about Scandia. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Scandia to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Scandia - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Scandia, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Scandia , we believe that it would have been located within present day Carver County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Scandia, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1856.

Time Zone: The area where Scandia was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

If Scandia still existed, it would have been in the (952) area code.

Communities Also Named Scandia ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two Minnesota communities named Scandia: This one is located in Carver County and the other is located in Washington County.

Beyond Minnesota, there are 5 communities that are also named Scandia - they are located in Alberta, Kansas, Pennsylvania and Washington.

For more information, see our Tidbits & Trivia Page for Scandia.

Adding Scandia to Our Gazetteer ...

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Scandia was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Scandia post office opened in 1856.

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Scandia, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Minnesota's counties, including Carver, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
