At the time of the 2010 Census, Long Prairie had a population of 3,458 people (or 13.89% of the total population of Todd County). This makes Long Prairie the county's most populous community.

We originally found mention of Long Prairie in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Long Prairie was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Long Prairie post office opened in 1850.

We also found Long Prairie in the book titled Table of U.S. Post Offices in the United States (Jan. 1851).
