Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Lakeland had an population of 1,820 people. This is an increase of 1.34% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 5.06% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Lakeland had a population of 1,796 people. This makes Lakeland the county's 16th most populous community.

The population of Lakeland represents 0.03% of the total population of Minnesota (which has 5,303,925 people), making it the state's 270th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,796 people, the population of Lakeland decreased 6.31% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 1,917 people).
