Lake County was founded in 1856 and was created by taking area from Itasca County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Lake had a population of 10,641 people. This is a decrease of 1.96% since the last Census (which gave a population of 10,854 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Lake represented 0.2% of the total population of Minnesota.
