The community of Bay City is the Seat for Bay County.

Bay County was founded April 20, 1857. Bay was created by taking area from Saginaw and Midland Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Bay had a population of 102,964 people. This is a decrease of 4.46% since the last Census (which gave a population of 107,771 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Bay represented 1.09% of the total population of Michigan.
