Vernon Parish was founded in 1871. Vernon was created by taking area from Natchitoches, Rapides and Sabine Parishes.
From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Vernon had a population of 48,394 people. This is a decrease of 7.53% since the last Census (which gave a population of 52,334 people in 2010).
At the time of the 2010 Census, Vernon represented 1.15% of the total population of Louisiana.
