The community of New Iberia is the Seat for Iberia Parish.

Iberia Parish was founded in 1868. Iberia was created by taking area from Saint Martin and Parishes.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Iberia had a population of 75,101 people. This is an increase of 2.5% since the last Census (which gave a population of 73,266 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Iberia represented 1.64% of the total population of Louisiana, making it the state's 17th most populous parish (out of 64 parishes).
