The community of New Iberia is the Seat for Iberia Parish.

Iberia Parish was founded in 1868. Iberia was created by taking area from Saint Martin and Saint Mary Parishes.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Iberia had a population of 69,830 people. This is a decrease of 4.49% since the last Census (which gave a population of 73,111 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Iberia represented 1.61% of the total population of Louisiana.
