The community of Ville Platte is the Seat for Evangeline Parish.

Evangeline Parish was founded in 1910 and was created by taking area from Saint Landry Parish.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Evangeline had a population of 33,395 people. This is a decrease of 1.65% since the last Census (which gave a population of 33,956 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Evangeline represented 0.75% of the total population of Louisiana.
