Catahoula Parish was founded in 1808. Catahoula was created by taking area from Ouachita and Rapides Parishes.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Catahoula had a population of 9,494 people. This is a decrease of 8.51% since the last Census (which gave a population of 10,377 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Catahoula represented 0.23% of the total population of Louisiana.
