While we don't have a date for the founding of Gallup, you might consider that their post office opened in 1881. When the people of Gallup referred to themselves (known as a demonym), they are believed to have used Gallupite<3> While the community is gone, the present day location for Gallup is 580 feet [177 m] above sea level.<4>.
