The community of Independence is the Seat for Kenton County.

Kenton County was founded in 1840 and was created by taking area from Campbell County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Kenton had a population of 167,333 people. This is an increase of 4.77% since the last Census (which gave a population of 159,720 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Kenton represented 3.68% of the total population of Kentucky.
