Clinton County was founded in 1835. Clinton was created by taking area from Cumberland and Wayne Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Clinton had a population of 10,200 people. This is a decrease of 0.7% since the last Census (which gave a population of 10,272 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Clinton represented 0.24% of the total population of Kentucky.
