Bullitt County was founded in 1796. Bullitt was created by taking area from Jefferson and Nelson Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Bullitt had a population of 81,676 people. This is an increase of 9.63% since the last Census (which gave a population of 74,500 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Bullitt represented 1.72% of the total population of Kentucky.
