The community of Wichita is the Seat for Sedgwick County.

Sedgwick County was founded February 26, 1867 and was created by taking area from Butler County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Sedgwick had a population of 516,042 people. This is an increase of 3.39% since the last Census (which gave a population of 499,128 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Sedgwick represented 17.49% of the total population of Kansas.
