The community of Cimarron is the Seat for Gray County.

Gray County was founded March 13, 1881. Gray was created by taking area from Finney and Ford Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Gray had a population of 5,988 people. This is a decrease of 0.63% since the last Census (which gave a population of 6,026 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Gray represented 0.21% of the total population of Kansas.
