The community of Clay Center is the Seat for Clay County.

Clay County was founded February 20, 1857.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Clay had a population of 8,009 people. This is a decrease of 6.16% since the last Census (which gave a population of 8,535 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Clay represented 0.3% of the total population of Kansas.

While it makes interesting reading all by itself, it should be of special interest to genealogists and family historians looking for people who were either affected by or directly involved in such tragedies.
