Washington County was founded December 21, 1813. Washington was created by taking area from Clark, Harrison and Knox Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Washington had a population of 28,063 people. This is a decrease of 0.7% since the last Census (which gave a population of 28,262 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Washington represented 0.44% of the total population of Indiana.
