The community of Sullivan is the Seat for Sullivan County.

Sullivan County was founded December 30, 1816 and was created by taking area from Knox County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Sullivan had a population of 20,601 people. This is a decrease of 4.07% since the last Census (which gave a population of 21,475 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Sullivan represented 0.33% of the total population of Indiana.
