The community of Rockport is the Seat for Spencer County.

Spencer County was founded January 10, 1818. Spencer was created by taking area from Perry and Warrick Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Spencer had a population of 20,273 people. This is a decrease of 3.24% since the last Census (which gave a population of 20,952 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Spencer represented 0.32% of the total population of Indiana.
