Posey County was founded November 11, 1814 and was created by taking area from Warrick County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Posey had a population of 25,408 people. This is a decrease of 1.94% since the last Census (which gave a population of 25,910 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Posey represented 0.4% of the total population of Indiana.
