Parke County was founded January 9, 1821 and was created by taking area from Vigo County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Parke had a population of 16,893 people. This is a decrease of 2.57% since the last Census (which gave a population of 17,339 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Parke represented 0.27% of the total population of Indiana.
