The community of Greenfield is the Seat for Hancock County.

Hancock County was founded January 26, 1828 and was created by taking area from Madison County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Hancock had a population of 78,159 people. This is an increase of 11.65% since the last Census (which gave a population of 70,002 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Hancock represented 1.08% of the total population of Indiana.
