While we don't have a date for the founding of Wamac, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was on a map dated 1956.

The origin (or the toponymy) of Wamac: The name Wamac is a portmanteau<3> and it reflects the fact that the city it is located where Washington, Marion and Clinton counties meet.

From the  Census Estimates for 2019, Wamac has a population of 1,125 people<4> (see below for details).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Wamac had a population of 1,185 people (or 8.05% of the total population of Washington County). This makes Wamac the county's 3rd most populous community.
