With a 2010 count of 34,094 people, the population of Pekin has remained roughly the same as the 2000 Census (which had a count of 33,857 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Pekin was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Pekin post office opened in 1832.
