At the time of the 2010 Census, Hardin had a population of 967 people (or 19% of the total population of Calhoun County). This makes Hardin the county's most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Hardin was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Hardin post office opened in 1848.

We also found Hardin in the book titled Table of U.S. Post Offices in the United States (Jan. 1851).
