Jasper County was founded in 1831. Jasper was created by taking area from Clay and Crawford Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Jasper had a population of 9,610 people. This is a decrease of 1.18% since the last Census (which gave a population of 9,725 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Jasper represented 0.08% of the total population of Illinois.
