Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Payette had an population of 7,782 people. This is an increase of 4.7% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 10.32% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Payette had a population of 7,433 people (which is 32.86% of the total population of Payette County). This makes Payette the county's most populous community.

The population of Payette represents 0.47% of the total population of Idaho (which has 1,567,582 people), making it the state's 24th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 7,433 people, the population of Payette increased 5.37% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 7,054 people).

We originally found mention of Payette in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Payette was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Payette post office opened in 1883.

We also found Payette in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
