The community of Emmett is the Seat for Gem County.

Gem County was founded in 1915. Gem was created by taking area from Boise and Canyon Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Gem had a population of 18,112 people. This is an increase of 8.54% since the last Census (which gave a population of 16,687 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Gem represented 1.06% of the total population of Idaho.
