Welcome to Elwell ...

So far, we found very little information about Elwell. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Elwell to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Elwell - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Elwell, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Elwell , we believe that it would have been located within present day Story County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Elwell, you might consider that their post office opened in 1882.

Time Zone: The area where Elwell was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are 5 communities that are also named Elwell - they are located in Colorado, Iowa, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Adding Elwell to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Elwell was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Elwell post office opened in 1882.

We also found Elwell in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
