Boone County was founded January 13, 1846 and was created by taking area from Polk County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Boone had a population of 26,234 people. This is a decrease of 0.14% since the last Census (which gave a population of 26,271 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Boone represented 0.86% of the total population of Iowa.
