Wilcox County was founded in 1857. Wilcox was created by taking area from Dooly, and Pulaski Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Wilcox had a population of 8,635 people. This is a decrease of 7.29% since the last Census (which gave a population of 9,314 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Wilcox represented 0.1% of the total population of Georgia.
