The community of Jasper is the Seat for Pickens County.

Pickens County was founded in 1853. Pickens was created by taking area from Cherokee and Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Pickens had a population of 31,264 people. This is an increase of 36.03% since the last Census (which gave a population of 22,983 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Pickens represented 0.28% of the total population of Georgia, making it the state's 71st most populous county (out of 159 counties).
