Dade County was founded in 1837 and was created by taking area from WalkerCounty.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Dade had a population of 16,127 people. This is an increase of 6.42% since the last Census (which gave a population of 15,154 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Dade represented 0.19% of the total population of Georgia, making it the state's 101st most populous county (out of 159 counties).
