Welcome to Vicksburg ...

So far, we found very little information about Vicksburg. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Vicksburg to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. If you can help us with Vicksburg, please Contact Us.

Adding Vicksburg to Our Gazetteer ...

We originally found mention of Vicksburg in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found (so far) for Vicksburg was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Vicksburg post office opened in 1905. The Vicksburg post office closed in 1907.

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Vicksburg, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Florida's counties, including Bay, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>The elevation is an estimate for the area around Vicksburg - it will be higher in some places and lower in others.
<4>When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code. In this case, the 850 code has been Overlayed with the 448 area code. New phone numbers in the Vicksburg area will be assigned with one of these codes: 850 or 448. As a result, placing a call in the Vicksburg area will require 10-digit dialing (where you enter both the area code and then the phone number).
