At the time of the 2010 Census, Pensacola had a population of 51,923 people (which is 17.42% of the total population of Escambia County). This makes Pensacola the county's most populous community.

The population of Pensacola represents 0.28% of the total population of Florida (which has 18,801,310 people), making it the state's 50th most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found (so far) for Pensacola was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Pensacola post office opened in 1824.
